After a week of city adventures, Willis and Henry decided it was time to explore the forest.
First on their forest adventure list was pick blueberries!
They also came across some mysterious red berries and even some raspberries!
They picked and picked and picked.
Willis kept checking their loot to watch it grow and fantasize about berry pancakes, waffles with berries and cream, and blueberry souffle.
Then Henry came over and they both assessed their berry picking achievements and compared delicious berry recipe ideas, until they decided it was time for some more exploring.
They headed down a very welcoming wooden path.
Which led them down to a beautiful lake.
Henry decided to put his head in the water, it was after all a rather warm day and the water looked extremely inviting! Willis happily stood back and watched (he has a mild fear of large bodies of water).
Then Henry jumped in! He floated on his back while trying to convince Willis to join him in the water because it was quite incredible and surprisingly not very cold. Willis politely declined but said he was very happy that Henry was enjoying his swim.
Then they sun-baked for a little while so Henry could dry off before they continues their forest adventure.
They'd heard that there was a spring somewhere in the forest where you can collect the cleanest water in the whole of Sweden! So they set off searching and came across the sign.
They found the spring without too many problems and upon tasting the water Willis and Henry agreed it definitely tasted like the cleanest water in Sweden, so they filled up their water bottle and started their walk home.
On many of Willis and Henry's adventures through Stockholm have they come across a large lime green cake. After extensive wikipedia research they found out that the famous prinsesstårta is a Swedish classic and a must try. So Willis and Henry headed off on a mission to find one and eat some!
They came across Åsö Konditori & Bageri and decided it looked like just the place!
They examined all the deliciousness that was on offer but couldn't see the large lime green marzipan cake.
They went to the counter and explained they were travelers who were especially eager to try the famous Swedish prinsesstårta and did they have any. The helpful lady behind the counter told them that in fact they were just about to make some prinsesstårta if they would like to watch it being made.
Willis and Henry thought this an excellent idea and excitedly went into the kitchen to watched the construction of this famous tårta.
Henry and Willis were mightily impressed! It also looked like a lot of fun, they both silently toyed with the idea of becoming a Swedish konditor (pastry baker).
Then it was time to taste the carefully constructed tårta so the critters rushed back into the shop to buy their piece an try it!
They stared admiringly at it.
Then devoured it in less than a minute! They both agreed it was the most delightfully delicious tårta, Willis also thought the colour of the green marzipan particularly excellent. They would definitely try making it back at the Herbert House!
Henry and Willis' first Swedish adventure was to Stockholm's open-air museum, Skansen. Excitedly they checked what was on and headed inside to explore the five centuries of Swedish history (as the notice board told them).
After a day of searching and a handy hint from the very helpful lady, Willis spotted Henry walking down the street!
Henry was surprised and super excited to see Willis on the streets of Stockholm of all places! They had a long chat and Willis told Henry about all the goings on in the Herbert house back home.
Then they continued down the street, planning all the amazing adventures they'd have together.
Willis has been missing his friend Henry the yeti so he decided to track him down. He heard on the grapevine that Henry was on his way to Sweden.
There was nothing for it but to book his ticket and jump on a plane!
He brought with him a photo of Henry so he could track him down. When he arrived in Stockholm he started asking around, but no one had seen him until he asked a nice lady who said she'd just passed him on the street!
She pointed to where she'd last seen him. Willis thanked her and headed off with the excitement of seeing an old friend rising is his chest.
Patrick and Rosa were so taken with their snow trip to Japan in February that they decided to try out the Australian snow!
So off they went to Perisher!
They didn't get the chance to try tobogganing in Japan so it was the first thing they did when they arrived. In fact they had so much fun tobogganing it was all they did the entire weekend!
Toby and I were lucky enough to get invited on the trip - here are some family holiday pics! Patrick took the above photo which he is immensely proud of, he feels he captured himself (and to a certain degree everyone else) extremely well!
