After the 4th day of rain, and a prediction of three to go, the critters are wondering what to do with themselves. They've played scrabble seven times (and that was just today), monopoly three times (all the way to the end!) and pick-up sticks nine times! They've also baked cupcakes and played 'Just Dance 4' on the Wii.
They would appreciate any suggestions for rainy day activities!
Some of you may remember Henry the travelling yeti who posted his travel photos on this blog. He dropped off the radar earlier this year, the last we heard of him he was in New York in February. This week he got in touch with some photos from San Francisco!
After cooking and eating so much excellent food of late, the critters felt it was time for some good old fashioned exercise. Ruben the fox, Ella the koala and Patrick the yak decided they would go for a run! But they couldn't just go out and start running, they knew from watching humans do it that you need to have the right outfit. They googled 'running outfit' and decided matching sweatbands and wristbands would do excellently!
They found some terry toweling that would make perfect sweatbands and wristbands! Then started by measuring each others heads,
Ruben volunteered to cut out the fabric while Patrick pinned the strips.
And Ella started sewing. She didn't get very far because the pedal was beyond her reach.
So Patrick and Ruben took turns standing and jumping on the pedal (and Herbert photo bombed!).
Then their new running outfits were finished!
They tried them on and agreed they all looked very smart! They soon realised they all felt fitter and healthier simply by wearing the sweatband-wristband combo! Maybe they'd go for a run another day...
The critters have been busy compiling some of their best recipes to share with you, and what better way to do so than on a tea towel! There's Hilda's heavenly tomato relish, Kevin's terrific toasted muesli, Gina's marvellous carrot and pineapple cupcakes and Patrick's sensational Swedish gingerbread! They're all available in our Big Cartel shop!
Over the long weekend Kevin, Sebastian and Mavis decided to make something they'd never made before. Inspired by the Queen's birthday they thought they'd make something queen-ish, and what could be more queen-ish than jam! After some toing and froing about what kind of jam they'd make, they agreed on pear and ginger jam. None of them had ever tried it before and it sounded quite excellent and very queen-ish.
One of the best things about making pear and ginger jam is that you get to use the best kitchen utensil ever invented! The apple peeler-corer-cutter! It even looks impressive! Kevin slowly turned the handle while the others watched intently as the peeler-corer-cutter worked its magic.
They then chopped the pear a little more,
grated the ginger and juiced the lemons.
Kevin measured out the sugar while Mavis watched in awe, she'd never seen so much sugar!
Sebastian mixed together the ingredients and stirred and stirred.
Until his arm started to ache, and Mavis took over.
Then it was time for the jarring! Kevin spooned the jam into the jars while the other two made jokes about jarring jams.
Mavis wrote the labels because she has the neatest handwriting and then they waited for the jam to cool.
When the jars had cooled they stuck on the labels and the jam was finished! They discussed whether or not to send a jar to the queen but decided against it, they weren't even sure if she liked ginger. It would probably be best to keep it all for themselves.
