After the critters' Tardis making adventure last week it was finally time to test it out!
Norris, Willis and Ruby were discussing what their first time-travelling destination would be when they came across Gina and Kevin in the kitchen. Gina explained they were making a super tasty baked ricotta cheesecake. This sounded too good to be true and Willis asked when it would be ready because they could postpone their trip until after cheesecake eating. Kevin said it was quite a process and it wouldn't be ready for another 5 hours! Then Ruby had the brilliant idea of travelling in time 5 hours ahead to when the cake would be ready!
The three of them left Gina and Kevin to finish making the cake. They found an excellent launching spot in the garden and filed into the Tardis.
Norris turned the dial and they all closed their eyes unsure of what to expect.
They felt a small jolt then opened their eyes.
Willis cautiously opened the door and inspected their surroundings. They definitely weren't at the Herbert house, they appeared to be in a jungle! Norris glanced at the dial and realised he'd accidentally set their destination to 5pm 28th July 2013 BC! He informed the others who were shocked, excited and nervous all at the same time. They decided to explore.
The critters hadn't walked far before they stumbled upon a unicorn! In a tepee! The critters just stood there staring not know what to say, so the unicorn spoke first. She introduced herself as Esmeralda and asked where they'd come from as she hadn't seen them round her part of the jungle before. Norris told her all about the Tardis, the Herbert house, the mistake he'd made with the dial and the baked ricotta cheesecake.
Esmeralda was particularly intrigued by the sound of the cheesecake so the critters invited her back for some cake and tea. She excitedly agreed and followed them back to the Tardis.
She said a quick goodbye to her jungle and off they went.
A small jolt and a second later they were back at their launching pad at the Herbert house, exactly on time for the cake to be ready!
Gina and Kevin had set the table and prepared the tea for their return. The critters introduced Esmeralda and told the others about their grand adventure. Everyone thought Esmeralda was pretty great! Gina and Kevin even gave her their secret baked ricotta cheesecake recipe!
As it happens, Esmeralda the Unicorn is a GIVEAWAY! To win this magical creature here's what you have to do:

The giveaway is open until 5pm this Wednesday 31st July and the winner will be drawn at random.
Over the weekend the critters watched their first ever episode of Dr Who! It was extremely exciting! They were so inspired by all the time travelling that Norris the yeti, Willis the turtle and Ruby the red panda decided to make their own Tardis. They realised this would be quite an undertaking but all felt up to the challenge!
Ruby started sketching the design and working on the physics involved in time travel.
Then they found some boxes just the right size and discussed the construction process.
After some trial and error and lots of masking tape, the Tardis started to take shape. Once the main construction was finished Norris cut out the door.
Now it was really coming together! They could almost feel time starting to warp as they stared into the depths of the newly formed time machine. But there was still lots more to do.
It was painting time! They discussed the merits of different colours but in the end they went with blue like Dr Who's Tardis. They couldn't rule out the colour having something to do with the success and accuracy of time travel.
Then for the technical and most essential part, the knobs. The presence of alternate dimensions was almost palpable.
Willis installed the knobs, being extra careful not to accidentally turn them. The thought of travelling through time without the others was mildly terrifying.
Ruby painted on the windows.
Then they stood back to admire their work. It really was quite excellent! But there was something missing...
Norris soon realised 'Police Box' was missing from the front of the Tardis and quickly rectified the situation.
Then their amazing Tardis was finished!!! It was time to decide where to go on their first time travelling adventure... stay tuned!
Henry just sent some travel snaps from New Zealand. He's been staying in Whangateau with some friends and helping out here and there.
You may recall back in April Ruben the fox, Patrick the yak and Clifford the yeti planted some snow peas that have become their pride and joy! They still check on them everyday, tell them the latest news from inside the Herbert house and sing to them.
Upon close inspection the snow peas are almost ready to be eaten! Stay tuned for snow pea eating party festivities!
The next day the critters awoke to an amazingly vibrant rainbow (they could practically see the pot of gold!).
And some visiting feathered friends who were looking for Ruben. Gina and Patrick explained that Ruben had packed a sandwich and gone in search of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
As it happened, Ruben didn't actually get very far before he ran into Gigi the goat who was rather forceful about Ruben sharing his sandwich with her. Ruben reasoned that the sandwich was probably too much for him anyway so it was ok for Gigi to have half.
Patrick went in search of the Baa Baas which had been one of his missions for the previous day.
He found a very handsome Baa Baa who was also an excellent conversationalist, they talked for almost an hour!
Meanwhile Gina met an overly friendly alpaca (not that there's anything really wrong with that, Gina just isn't used to being kissed on first meeting!).
She also met an overly friendly goat so she put it down to a cultural difference and they got along rather well.
After lunch the critters visited the bee hives and the bee motel, but as it turned out they were all hibernating for winter.
But they had a honey tasting which was quite extraordinary! Then it was time to head home. It was an extremely adventurous holiday and they promised all their new friends they'd be back to visit again soon!
Last week Gina the giraffe, Patrick the yak and Ruben the fox decided it was time for a holiday! They ummed and arred over where to go and finally decided on a farmstay. They did some searching and discovered Honeycomb Valley - it sounded perfect! They packed their bags and off they went!
After a relatively short (but very rainy) roadtrip they arrived at their long-awaited destination!
They quickly unpacked and went exploring. Gina headed towards the Tofudebeests and Munchkins, Ruben went to visit the Feathered Friends and Patrick decided on the Equines, Fluffballs and Baa Baas.
Gina wasn't sure how she'd know when she found the Tofudebeests (she wasn't too clear on what they looked like) but she soon stumbled upon these furry friends and was quite sure they were it! She tried introducing herself but the Tofudebeests didn't seem too interested.
Until this friendly (and extremely good-looking) Tofudebeest stopped and had a chat. Gina was very pleased she'd made a new friend.
Meanwhile Ruben found the Feathered Friends who were a little shy and standoffish. They were a bit wary about the fact that he was a fox until Ruben pointed out that they were twice his size.
The Feathered Friends invited him in to see their house and Ruben found an egg!
After leaving the others Patrick soon found the Equines, or rather they found him. The brown Equine (who Patrick later found out was named Hollywood) yelled out and complimented Patrick on his fine maine of hair. Patrick blushed a little and the three of them got talking and became fast friends.
In the afternoon the critters shared adventure stories and a vigorous game of totem tennis before retiring into their cabin for the night.
